Answers to the things that come up

The problems people actually hit, and what to do about each. If yours is not here, write to us — the address is at the bottom.

Getting started

Do I need an account?

No. The app opens into the mushaf and every reading, listening, prayer-time and memorisation feature works without signing in. An account is created quietly on your device the first time you use a family circle, because a circle needs to know who is who — and even then there is nothing to fill in.

Is it really free?

Yes. There is no advertising, no subscription and no in-app purchase. Nothing is held back behind a price.

Which languages does it run in?

Nine: Arabic, English, German, Amharic, Malay, Portuguese, Turkish, Russian and Japanese. Change it in Settings → Language. The translation you read beside a verse is a separate choice, made from the verse sheet in the mushaf.

Family circles

How does somebody join my circle?

They install the app, go to Family → Join, and type the circle's nickname. You will see a request waiting, and the person joins once you approve it. There is no invite link to send, which is the point — a nickname can be said out loud.

The nickname I want is taken or refused

Nicknames are unique across the whole app, are three to twenty-four characters, and may contain only lowercase letters, digits, a dot, a dash or an underscore. A handful of words are reserved. Capitals are folded to lowercase, so 'MyFamily' and 'myfamily' are the same name and cannot both exist.

How many people fit in one circle?

Two hundred. It is sized for a memorisation halaqa rather than for a household, so a household never runs out of room.

Somebody is misbehaving in the chat

Every message can be reported, and every member can be blocked. A circle's admin sees reports and can remove a member outright. Messages are also filtered for profanity on the server before they reach anyone.

The chat is too noisy

Mute that circle from its chat menu. You stay a member and keep your goal and your progress; you simply stop being notified.

Reading, audio and hifz

My progress is not counting

Pages count as you read them in the mushaf — a page you scroll past quickly may not register as read. If a whole session is missing, check that the app has not been force-stopped by a battery saver while it was in the background.

Audio stops when I lock the phone

It should not — playback continues with the screen off and appears in your phone's media controls. If it stops, the usual cause is an aggressive battery optimisation: allow the app to run in the background in your phone's settings.

Hifz with AI is not hearing me

Check that the microphone permission is granted — it is asked for on that screen, and again if you record a voice note in a circle's chat. The first time you open it, the app downloads its speech model, about 60 MB, and needs a connection for that step only; after that it works offline. Recognition is easier in a quiet room, and it follows recitation rather than ordinary speech.

A downloaded surah disappeared

Phones clear downloaded media when storage runs low, and both iOS and Android do this without asking. Free some space and download it again.

Prayer times and notifications

The prayer times look wrong

They are calculated from your location. If the app has an old or approximate position — common if you declined location and the city was set once by hand — open Prayer Times and set your city again.

No notifications are arriving

Three things to check, in order: notifications are allowed for the app in your phone's settings; the specific reminder is switched on in Settings → Notifications, since reading, azkar, adhan and circle alerts are separate; and the app is not being force-stopped by a battery saver.

The adhan plays for prayers I did not want

Each prayer has its own setting. Open Prayer Times, tap the prayer, and choose the full adhan, a quieter alert, or nothing at all.

Your data

How do I delete my account?

Profile → Delete my account, inside the app. You are offered the choice of erasing this device's data along with it. Deleting the account removes you from any circles you were in.

What happens to my circle if I delete my account?

You leave it, and your messages and progress go with you. If you were the only admin, hand the circle to somebody else first, or it is left without one.

I changed phones — does anything move with me?

Reading progress, bookmarks, notes and hifz records live on the device, so a new phone starts fresh unless you restored a full device backup. Circle membership follows the account rather than the phone.

Not the problem you have?

Write to us and a person reads it. Mention your phone and the app version if you can — it saves a round trip.
