Using the app means accepting these terms
By installing or using Family Quran you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the app.
These terms, together with the privacy policy, are the whole agreement between us about the app.
Who may use it
Anyone may read the Quran in this app, at any age. The app asks for no personal information and requires no account to do so.
Family circles include a group chat. If you are a parent or a teacher putting a child into a circle, you are responsible for that circle: for who you approve into it, and for the conduct of its members. Be its administrator, and remove anybody who does not belong there.
The Quranic text and the other content
The Quranic text, the tafseer, the translations, the hadith and the azkar in this app are reproduced from established sources. We take their accuracy extremely seriously and check what we ship.
If you find a mistake in any of them — and especially in the Quranic text — please report it to [email protected] with the page number or the surah and ayah. Reports about the text of the Quran take priority over everything else we are doing.
The app is a reading and memorisation tool. It is not a source of religious rulings, and a translation is an interpretation rather than the Quran itself. For matters of fiqh, ask a qualified scholar.
Your account and your device
A device account is created automatically when a feature needs one — currently only the family circles. It is tied to your device rather than to a password, which is why uninstalling the app or wiping the device can separate you from it permanently.
You are responsible for what is done through your device. If you hand your unlocked phone to somebody, they are you as far as your circles are concerned.
Circles, chat, and how to behave in them
A family circle is a shared space, often with children in it. What you may not do in one:
- Harass, threaten, insult or bully anybody.
- Post anything obscene, hateful, violent or sexual, or anything unlawful.
- Send advertising, spam or links to anything you are selling.
- Impersonate somebody else, or misrepresent who you are to get into a circle.
- Share another member's personal information without their consent.
- Attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer or gain unauthorised access to any part of the service.
Moderation
Messages are filtered for profanity before delivery. Any member can report a message or block another member, and a circle's administrator can remove a member at any time.
We may remove content, suspend an account or remove somebody from a circle where these terms have been broken, and we may do so without notice where somebody's safety is at stake.
Your licence to use the app
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to install and use Family Quran on devices you own or control, for your own use.
The app's software, design, name and artwork remain ours. You may not copy, sell, sublicense or redistribute the app, or remove any notice from it. The Quranic text itself, of course, belongs to no one company — the licence above concerns the app, not the Book.
The app is free
Family Quran is free to use. There is no advertising, no subscription and no in-app purchase, and we do not intend to add any.
Being free does not make it unsupported — write to us and a person will answer — but it does mean we make no commitment about uptime, and a feature that depends on our servers may be unavailable from time to time.
No warranty
The app is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent the law allows. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that prayer times and the Qibla direction will be accurate in every place and circumstance — they are calculated, and a calculation depends on the position your phone reports.
Where you are relying on a prayer time or a Qibla direction for an act of worship and it matters, verify it against a local source.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential loss arising from your use of the app, or for content posted by other people in a family circle.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Apple and Google
This agreement is between you and us, not with Apple or Google. Neither store is responsible for the app or for supporting it, and neither has any obligation to you in connection with it.
On iOS, Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also comply with the App Store Terms of Service, and on Android with Google Play's terms.
Ending it
You can stop at any time: delete your account from inside the app, or simply uninstall it.
We may suspend or end your access where these terms have been broken. If we end a circle or an account for a reason other than a breach, we will say why.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the app changes. The date at the top says when they last did. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the new version.
