Questions
Frequently asked
Everything people ask before they install it, answered plainly.
What is Family Quran?
A free Quran app with the complete 604-page mushaf, recitations, tafseer and translations, memorisation tracking with on-device recitation following, prayer times, azkar, a fasting tracker — and family circles, where a household or a halaqa of up to two hundred reads towards a shared goal.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. No advertising, no subscription, no in-app purchases, and no feature held back behind a price.
Do I have to sign up?
No. The app opens straight into the Quran, and reading, listening, prayer times and memorisation all work with no account at all. One is created on your device the first time you use a family circle, since a circle has to know who is who.
Does it work without the internet?
The mushaf, the azkar, the tasbih, the Names, the hadith library, the prayer-time calculation and anything you have downloaded all work offline. A connection is needed for family circles and their chat, for Quran radio and live channels, and once for the speech model used by Hifz with AI.
Is my recitation recorded?
No. Speech recognition runs entirely on your device with a model the app carries. No audio is recorded, stored or transmitted anywhere.
Why does the app want my location?
For prayer times and the Qibla direction, and only while the app is open. It never leaves your device. If you would rather not give it, set your city by hand instead — the times are the same.
How do I invite my family?
Create a circle and give it a short nickname. Tell people the nickname — no link to send — and they type it under Family → Join. You approve each request and set everybody a daily page goal.
How big can a circle be?
Up to two hundred people, so a memorisation halaqa or a school class fits as comfortably as a household.
Can children use it?
Yes — it is rated for everyone. The one thing to know is that family circles include a group chat, so a child in a circle can send and receive messages from the other members. Messages are filtered, and any member can be reported or blocked; an admin can remove somebody. A child who is not in a circle has no chat at all.
Which mushaf is it?
The Madani mushaf, all 604 pages, each with its own typeface so the page matches the printed copy line for line — which matters to anybody who memorised by the shape of a page.
Can I use it in Arabic?
Yes, with the whole interface laid out right to left — not an English layout with Arabic words in it. Nine languages in total.
How do I delete my data?
Profile → Delete my account, from inside the app, with the option to erase this device's data at the same time.
I found a mistake in the text. What do I do?
Please tell us, and include the page number or the surah and ayah. A mistake in the Quran's text is the most serious thing anybody can report to us, and it goes to the front of the queue.
Which phones does it run on?
Android and iPhone. It is submitted to Google Play and the App Store; the download buttons on this site go live the day each listing does.
